Summary
To complement our annual 9-night expedition cruises around the Arctic islands of Svalbard, we are offering an additional 7-night cruise in the summer of 2021 which – ice and weather permitting – will spend its time exploring Svalbard’s icy north. The exact route of our voyage will depend on the prevailing ice conditions, which vary dramatically from year to year, but the intention is to head north and explore the north-western coastline of Spitsbergen and Nordaustlandet (North-east Island) in search of Polar Bears, Walrus, Beluga Whales and other Polar wildlife. Arctic Foxes scavenge around the base of huge seabird colonies, whilst Ivory Gulls glide serenely overhead. Grey Phalaropes, Purple Sandpipers and Barnacle Geese all breed on the tundra which will be awash with colourful flowers at the time of our visit.
- An exclusive wildlife charter focusing on Spitsbergen’s mammals, birds, flora & scenery
- 7 nights on board the 53-berth, ice-strengthened, MS Quest, one of the smallest vessels in Svalbard
- Look for Polar Bears on the pack ice
- Spectacular Arctic scenery
- Visit colonies of Little Auks & Brünnich’s Guillemots
- Arctic Fox, Walrus & Beluga Whale all likely
- Birds including Ivory Gull, Grey Phalarope, King Eider & Long-tailed Skua
Grading
Grade A/B. Walks are easy to moderately strenuous but there are no footpaths on Spitsbergen and the terrain is rough. See tour itinerary for more information.
